What's the idea behind Tips?

We want to be a resource for litigators in small and mid-sized law firms.

It's easy to do that one-on-one with our existing clients: We stay in regular contact by email, video conference, and screensharing (not to mention the occasional phone call or text chat).

But we'd also like to provide some help to people who aren't our clients yet. We're not sure the best way to go about this, so we're going to experiment. The first thing we're going to try is "Tips".

In this Tips section of our web site, we're going to report bite-size pieces of information that we think smaller firms might find helpful. Let's see how that goes. We're open to other ideas, too, so if you've got suggestions, let us know.

Services

Bullet Document coding and scanning services

Tip - October 14, 2009 (html)

Many qd documents users do their own document scanning and coding. However, other users would like that work to be done by somebody else.

Either way, the qd documents software gives you the tools you need -- tools to code your own documents, and tools to import data provided by outside services.

But providing the tools isn't enough. What if you do want to have coding and scanning done by an outside service? How do you find someone to do the work?

We've got the answer.

Software

Bullet FileMaker Pro - Solo and Workgroup Databases

Software recommendation - August 17, 2009 (html)

FileMaker® Pro database software is a great tool for the small firm, thanks largely to its (very healthy) split personality.

On the one hand, it's as easy to use as a spreadsheet. On the other hand, it's got professional development capabilities that make it a platform for commercial software products.

On the one hand, it's a great desktop database tool for the single user. On the other hand, it's aimed at workgroups, with support for sharing databases peer-to-peer, using a server, and over the internet.

On the one hand, it runs on a Mac. On the other hand, it runs on Windows. And (on both hands) it lets Windows users and Mac users share the same database.

Overall, it's a great tool for the small and mid-sized law firm.
